What are “Gray Divorces?”

February 28, 2014

What are “Gray Divorces”?  Sociologists have penned the term “gray divorces” to refer to Americans age 50 and older who are getting divorced.  Interestingly, more Americans who are 50 and older are divorced than are widowed.  So why has the divorce rate increased in this age group? One sociologist suggested that staying together “until death do us part” is more challenging than it used to be because Americans expect much more in marriage than they did in the past.  The below article discusses the implications of this growing trend.
