1) What areas of counseling interest you the most?

My heart in counseling bends toward couples and individuals who experience relationship trauma.  I believe we are molded by our relationships with the family we are born into. When we are hurt by the people who are meant to love us the most, it can affect how we interact in the real world. I am committed to helping people understand who they are and why they do things in life by connecting the dots to heal from toxic relationships. As a result, they can thrive in life, love, and business.

2) Tell us about the moment you knew counseling was the career you wanted to pursue?

I was pursuing my MBA degree at the University of Central Florida while also participating in the Leadership Enhancement Program under the direction of the late Dr. Valarie King. She partnered me with licensed mental health counselor Valeska Wilson in that program. Her exposure and partnership in delivering workshops to the UCF community, I realize mental health was an interest that I wanted to pursue. Looking back, not only did I  use my business degree in Business Management through my entrepreneurial efforts by starting a counseling center with multiple therapists, but I was also able to work in mental health in the counseling center business I founded.

3) For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?

I wear many hats, which are tied to my passion for creating impact in the areas of mental and emotional healing so people can truly show up to their lives in the greatest capacity. This includes leading and managing Life Counseling Solutions in Maitland, Florida, a full-service counseling center serving families, couples, individuals, teenagers, and children.  Their afflictions include addictions, relationship challenges, trauma repair, anger management, depression, and anxiety.  I also serve on the  International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals faculty, where I teach therapists the best practices for treating women’s trauma around sex and relationships. I host the show “Let’s Talk About It With Janie Lacy,” on major outlets like iHeart Radio, iTunes, Spotify, etc. We interview celebrities and world-renowned leaders in their respected fields to help our audience be their best selves. I recently delivered my first TEDx Talk, and you can watch it here:  Breaking the Chain of Unhealthy Relationships | TEDx Talk
